Ninety-seven percent of the students in our string orchestra receive full music scholarships to college.
Here’s what our students and their parents are saying.
“I received a full ride music scholarship.”
“Playing in the orchestra has been nothing but beneficial to me. Under the leadership and guidance of Mrs. Johnson, the head of Harmonic South, I gained the courage to pursue a career in the field of music. I could see the improvement I made just in one year. Mrs. Johnson cares for all of her students and always provides us with exposure, even taking us to Virginia Beach, VA to compete against other high school orchestras. Thanks to Mrs. Johnson, I received a myriad of scholarship offers including a full ride from the University of Memphis where I now pursue a degree in music business.”
Eddie Bolden, Former Student
“Harmonic South would not let my son fail.”
“My son Eddie would not be where he is without the tutelage of Mrs. Johnson. From the very beginning, she saw the talent and passion that he had for playing his instrument and pushed him to excel. She would not allow him to give up. Her persistence became his success. As a parent, it is rare to find a teacher that genuinely cares about their students and wants the best for him. Because of Mrs. Johnson, my son has held several jobs that show his skillset. She was also integral part of my son receiving 6 full scholarships for music performance. I am beyond grateful for her.”

“Harmonic South enhanced my child's life.”
“Mrs. Johnson, Harmonic South leader, was my son’s Violin instructor. She is one of the best genuine teachers my child could have had. My son and I was very blessed to have had the level of commitment and gift. Not only is she talented, she was also encouraging to my son in many ways. She kept my son performing in recitals, weddings, and, churches, and my son experiences were just rewarding and fulfilling . It is an experience my son still speaks very highly of. This was a great journey.”
Kathleen Holloway, Parent
“Unimaginable doors opened for me.”
“Playing the violin under the guidance of Mrs. Johnson as a child exposed me to things that I couldn’t imagine. I’ve played before prestigious groups and dignitaries. The orchestra was given the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to play for the inauguration for Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. when he won his seat in Congress. I’ve had a job that gave me both national and international exposure. I was offered full music scholarships. I have had the opportunity to teach private lessons to students. Playing the violin with Mrs. Johnson gave me a lot of confidence and self esteem that I didn’t have before.”
Troya Hall, Former Student
“I went from low musical skill to an advanced level.”
“As a young student in the interested in learning the art form, Mrs. Johnson taught music to me from the lowest starting point. That starting point created a solid foundation and allowed me to progress through advanced and college proficient levels. I credit Mrs. Johnson for making me the musician I am today.”
